This colour can be seen as the tint beloved of the Adam brothers and ubiquitous in the fashionable interiors they created in the last quarter of the 18th century. I have avoided this shade becoming too fragrant by using red oxide instead of carmine (in the past the organic pigments used to make lakes did not have the opacity of earth pigments and so would have seemed softer to the eye than the modern equivalent). Edward Bulmer Natural Paints are made from natural raw materials, one ingredient being red oxide in Laylock – this new generation of natural paints are good for all types of buildings, especially period properties as they allow the walls breathe.
Gosh, that's beautiful! I have always loved Laylock

I very deliberately picked a soft colour palette, Swedish blues, greys, lavender, ivory, mauve and used paints with a chalky, almost distemper-like quality, as they have a restful effect. Edward Bulmer has a lovely range ; we used the Duck Egg in our sitting room.
Just wanted to say how much Will and I enjoyed meeting Amanda. She really was a wonderful help and I can’t quite believe we decided on nearly all the colours and all seemed to agree! I think it would have been impossible without her help and I didn’t relish the indecision and arguments that might …
I think that what I am trying to say about Edward Bulmer colours is that they are quite startling in their complexity – it’s almost as if they are alive.
Invisible green is the colour of confidence, equally at ease in grand rooms and humble nests. It’s the perfect shade of calm and joy – and who doesn’t need that in their lives? My lovely decorators are always happy to see the tins appear, but I’m also an impulsive colour changer, especially in my children’s …
I will never use anything except Bulmer paint again, I have to say. Plus I have no idea why the decorator forums made it sound so difficult! If it’s within my capabilities, it’s within anyone’s!
We have created this calculator to help you estimate the amount of paint you will need for your project. Please note that this is only an estimate, based on normal surfaces with two coats of paint.
Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.
If you end up with any leftover paint, get inspired with ways to use any excess paint - it's even compostable!
