How to Use Samples

1. Explore Our Colours

Start by browsing our Inspiration Gallery for ideas, or explore our colours by room, colour family and architectural style.

If you’d like a little guidance, our Colour Consultancy team can help you create a palette suited to your home.

2. Choose Your Samples

There are two ways to explore our colours at home:

60ml Sample Pots contain our Natural Emulsion, allowing you to apply the paint directly to your walls or sample sheets.

A5 Colour Swatches are painted with real paint, giving you an accurate representation of each colour without needing a brush. They’re easy to move between walls and rooms, making them particularly useful when comparing several shades.

Both are designed to help you choose your colour. Sample Pots contain Natural Emulsion and A5 Swatches show colour rather than the sheen of our Eggshell or Gloss finishes.

3. How to Use Sample Pots

Stir your Sample Pot thoroughly before applying two coats, allowing the first to dry before applying the second.

Paint a generous area directly onto your wall or apply the colour to separate sheets of paper that you can move around the room.

Look at your samples in different positions and at different times of day. Natural light changes throughout the day, while artificial lighting can also affect how a colour appears.

4. How to Use A5 Colour Swatches

Our A5 Colour Swatches are ideal for comparing colours without painting directly onto your walls.

Use low-tack tape to temporarily position them on different walls, or place them alongside fabrics, furniture and flooring to see how the colours work together.

Move your swatches around the room and revisit them throughout the day and evening. A colour can appear quite different depending on the direction and quality of the light.
