We were lucky to sit down with co-founder Rosie over a cup of tea to learn more about what inspires her, her favourite things and how they are tackling waste in the fashion industry.

What is it about the outdoors that inspires you most?

At this time of the year, the great outdoors is jaw-droppingly beautiful, humming with life and verdant green. I live on a farm and I am lucky to be out on foot or on a horse most days. The birdsong, the insect life and the frequent visits of roe deer and hare mean there is always something happening, but blink and you have missed it. Being able to surround myself with the outdoors on such a regular basis is a luxury and certainly brings me peace and time to reflect.

As a fellow family run business, what is the loveliest thing about working together as sisters?

We get to speak more! Lucia and I started TROY in 2013 and the highs and inevitable lows of building a brand and business together have brought us closer and we have a huge amount of respect for each other also (I hope she agrees!). We have been on TROY adventures across the globe together and met fascinating people we would not have otherwise met, which has been hugely enriching.

How does nature influence your design process?

Our colour palette is inspired by the earthy tones of nature and features green in every variety, alongside tans, taupes and ever-popular navy, drawing on rusts and rich chocolate browns as we enter the cooler months.

Favourite EBNP colour?

It would have to be Saxony green as I just selected it for our hall door!

Waste in the textile and fashion industry is a problem, how do you tackle this as a brand?

We are acutely conscious of our responsibility to limit our impact on the planet with our fabric selections, deigns, production volumes and shipping, and try to reduce to a minimum the waste in any of these activities. We make our collection almost exclusively in the UK and source as locally as possible which goes a long way to reduce our carbon impact as a brand.

Favourite podcast you’re listening to at the moment?

Diary of a CEO, and The Rest is Politics keep me busy when not working through my endless reading list on Audible, oh and My Therapist Ghosted Me when needing a laugh!

What are you reading at the moment?

I am currently reading ‘To The City’ a book by my clever friend Alex Christie Miller on the fascinating history of the ancient walls of Istanbul.

How important are the seasons to you and which is your favourite?

I think England is at its best in early June. That said, I do love to watch all of the seasons change and almost prefer a bracing, blustery beach walk to the heat of high summer

How would you describe your interiors style?

I would say that I am finally growing in confidence and enjoying the process of updating rooms and taking on projects in a manageable timeline so I can gather samples and experiment. I am traditional but love adding more modern fabrics, colour and finishes to refresh a classic interior.

Describe your brand to those who may not have worn it before.

TROY designs beautiful outerwear and wardrobe staples for men and women, inspired by the British outdoors and almost exclusively made here in England.

‘When TROY London’s co-founder Rosie met Edward and Emma Bulmer at the Great British Brands launch, it was a serendipitous meeting of kindred spirits, two British brands united by heritage, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for nature. From their idyllic base in Herefordshire, Emma, CEO, and Edward, an interior designer and architectural historian, have built a pioneering, eco-conscious paint company’

How much paint do I need?

We have created this calculator to help you estimate the amount of paint you will need for your project. Please note that this is only an estimate, based on normal surfaces with two coats of paint.

Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.

If you end up with any leftover paint, get inspired with ways to use any excess paint - it's even compostable!

What are you painting?

Estimated
Painted Wall/Ceiling Area

Our natural matt emulsion is perfect for interior walls and ceilings.

0 litres

0 m2

This estimate is based on the dimensions of your room, minus the space taken by average doors and windows.

For this area, we suggest would be adequate.

Estimated

Our water based eggshell or gloss is ideal for woodwork or metalwork.

0 litres

0 m2

This estimate is based on skirting and the doors/windows you tell us about. 1 litre should cover 2-3 doors or 20m of skirting.

For this area, we suggest would be adequate.
