Thinking of a city to seaside move? Or even just dreaming, this one’s for you. Who does not love a transformation? So as part of The Colour Club, we are going to be exploring home renovations and showing you some glorious before and afters. We’re starting with interiors expert, mother and lifestyle lover Megan, the creative behind Instagram account, @kitandco_ to show you how it’s done. Megan at kitandco_ shares our love for a place full of heritage and character, ‘I’ve always loved the charm of period properties. Before we moved to the coast, we renovated a 200-year-old A-listed Georgian property in Edinburgh’s New Town. With its magnificent proportions, original flagstones, wood paneling, grand fireplaces and the most intricate cornicing, it was bursting with character. I didn’t think we would ever leave.’ Sounds quite the dream property! ‘Fast forward five years and add two little people, we found ourselves naturally gravitating towards a more rural lifestyle.’ And so, it began, the move to Gullane, a village in the seaside region of East Lothian, with over 40 miles of coastline. ‘We’ve always adored East Lothian and it’s beautiful beaches and find ourselves now wishing we’d made the move sooner!’ As an interiors and lifestyle lover, @kitandco_, wasted no time in collating inspiration for their ‘forever family home’, pulling together some ideas for the snug/children’s playroom. ‘When planning the children’s playroom I wanted a playful colour on the walls. ‘Invisible Green’ evoked memories of cheerful days in the sunshine with the grass between our toes. A striking colour which brings the outdoors in. It’s a divine pop of joy.’ Staying true to the natural theme and purpose of the room, Megan chose plenty of touchy-feely rugs, throws and a deep cornered sofa to snuggle down as a family – corner sofa from @loafhome in a beautiful ‘Dorset Yellow’ linen, together with a Santorini blue rug and fabrics from @weaver.green, @torimurphytextiles, @fermoie and cushions @kittyholmeslondon. Beautiful artwork by @fiona_sturrock_art and @roseelextraharris and bespoke lampshade from @fenellainteriordesign and lamp @rosannalonsdale. After testing colours with our sample pots, there was only one colour Megan felt perfectly suited. We couldn’t love more why this particular green was the one for their family home, matched with ‘Paris Grey’ for the woodwork. Like all new beginnings, it can require you to have a ‘change of play’, ‘having moved into a modern new build, it required a change of mindset but we couldn’t be happier. The ease of new has been such a joy with a young family. We have everything we need on our doorstep now. A huge garden, the beach, and lots of light, open plan living space.’ And finally, we finish on how colour is the reason Megan and her family feel so settled in their new seaside transition – ‘It was important to us to add some character and by adding colour I think we’ve achieved this and it really has made it feel like home.’ We just love your ‘forever family home’ Megan @kitandco_ , thank you so much for sharing your transformation and all the gorgeous photos! Choosing colours for a conservatory Bright conservatories with skylights can be awkward spaces to paint in colour. The trick is to find a way to absorb the light without dulling it down or overpowering it with a vivid colour or even illuminating it with something too white. Read more for all the colour tips..
Through the Keyhole – House & Garden Festival 2018 Our decorated space at this year’s House & Garden Festival was all about collaboration.
