An essential primer for new wood and MDF surfaces, designed to provide a stable base for our Water-Based Eggshell or Gloss paints.
Use on all bare timber and MDF – especially where wood is rich in active substances. Knots should be spot-primed first, with two full coats applied to prevent staining or tannin bleed.
This low-odour, ready-to-use formula may be diluted with up to 5% water if needed.

“Edward Bulmer opened my eyes and inspired me to think more about sustainability and planet friendly options within the interiors industry.”
I love Edward Bulmer’s Natural Paints, which are made entirely from natural pigments in superb heritage colour ranges.
A terrifically nuanced combination of colours and cultures
There are three reasons I chose Edward Bulmer Natural Paint. First and foremost the fantastic range of colours, from the historically authentic to the more contemporary, meant that there was something fitting for every room in my cottage. Secondly, the paint’s true ‘green’ credentials were important and led onto the third benefit that painters like working with it. …
Awesome colours. I couldn’t be happier with the result.

We have created this calculator to help you estimate the amount of paint you will need for your project. Please note that this is only an estimate, based on normal surfaces with two coats of paint.
Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.
If you end up with any leftover paint, get inspired with ways to use any excess paint - it's even compostable!
What are you painting?

Our water based eggshell or gloss is ideal for woodwork or metalwork.
This estimate is based on two coats of paint and the skirting and the doors/windows you told us about. 1 litre should cover 2-3 doors or 20m of skirting.
