Tingry

(237)

This colour has been archived, please visit the ‘Archived Colours’ page for more information HERE

It would seem that Black became a decorating colour when we started to use it for chimney backs and some woodwork in the 17th century.  It was originally based on carbon from burning oils but mention of the modern way to mix it using carbon came in Tingry’s manual in the 1830s and I have christened our oil-free natural version accordingly.  At Edward Bulmer Natural Paint, we declare all our ingredients, Tingry is made up of carbon black, white, blue and earth pigment, to give a ‘near’ black for a dark sophisticated look when applied to walls or woodwork.

We strongly advise ordering a sample pot of this colour before committing to a paint tin as the light can greatly affect this dark grey/blue colour.

Historical Reference: this colour originated in the Victorian period and has been used ever since.

Not Sure? Ask The Team

I was just walking around my house thinking how fortunate I was to find your paint! It’s nine months since I began my renovation project and every day I’m so glad I chose these lovely colours! I have some regrets about other aspects of my project but not this

Jessica Stanley

I wanted to let you know that I had finally been painting the billiard room with your paint, and I love your paint, the quality and the coverage, for years I had always said to my customers to use other premium paint brands but now I will suggest to use yours only, I am so …

Victor Flacon, VF Painters & Decorators

The ‘Brick’ is so correct and elegant with that art…per usual the clarity of your natural paints colours showcase both fine and decorative arts to advantage

Marie-Lynette

Thank you for your wonderful paint. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am. Your Rose Tinted White is the most beguiling of colours – in fact I’d say it’s more of a mood than a colour! It’s warm soft, feminine without being sugary and the paint has a wonderful earthy, breathing quality which is magical.

Marina

I just love the colours and it has really helped to see them in the flesh

How much paint do I need?

We have created this calculator to help you estimate the amount of paint you will need for your project. Please note that this is only an estimate, based on normal surfaces with two coats of paint.

Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.

If you end up with any leftover paint, get inspired with ways to use any excess paint - it's even compostable!

What are you painting?

Estimated

Our natural matt emulsion is perfect for interior walls and ceilings.

0 litres

0 m2

This estimate is based on two coats of paint and the dimensions of your room, minus the space taken by average doors and windows.

0 litres

0 m2

This estimate is based on two coats of paint and the skirting and the doors/windows you told us about. 1 litre should cover 2-3 doors or 20m of skirting.

For this area, we suggest would be adequate.
