The Lorfords Contemporary x Edward Bulmer Natural Paint Edit

Introducing a new era in Sustainable Design: Lorfords Contemporary x Edward Bulmer Natural Paint

An exclusive partnership with Lorfords Contemporary offering our natural paint finishes across their new collection, from chair and sofa legs, to wooden benches and ottoman frames.

Colour should be fun! When two champions of craftsmanship and sustainability come together, the result is more than just beautiful furniture. It’s a celebration of values, heritage, and innovation. Gloucestershire based Lorfords Contemporary, are renowned and respected British bespoke furniture makers known for their commitment to natural materials and traditional techniques, has launched its first-ever design collaboration with Edward Bulmer Natural Paint.

As part of the launch, founder Edward has further collaborated with Lorfords Contemporary’s workshop to re-imagine an iconic original antique design, which beautifully showcases painted detailing coupled with sustainably sourced design and historical references. ‘The Brighton’ bench is a faithful reproduction of an original C18th antique seat, a piece discovered within the extensive Lorfords Antiques collection and then thoroughly studied and recreated in keeping with its original origins.

This partnership marks a milestone in modern British design, fusing historical elegance with a contemporary sustainable ethos. Each bench is a unique, made-to-order piece crafted in the Cotswolds, reflecting both brands’ dedication to environmental responsibility and authentic artisanal quality.

From FSC-certified beech frames to low VOC colour finishes, the collection offers a new standard for those seeking both style and substance in their interiors. Welcome to a new benchmark in sustainable luxury.

“Customisation is at the heart of our brand and so we’re thrilled to introduce a new
extensive paint offering using a material which not only follows all of our values in
sustainability, but also transforms our pieces to fit some of the most vibrant and eye
caching interiors,”

Central to this collaboration is the freedom and JOY it offers clients and customers to create something truly personal. With our extensive, but never overwhelming palette of over 100 natural shades, each derived from earth and mineral pigments, designers and homeowners alike can select colours that resonate not only with their interiors but also with their values.

From rich ochres and verdant greens to soft neutrals, each hue is crafted to be breathable, non-toxic, and environmentally kind.

The opportunity to apply these hand-mixed paints to Lorfords Contemporary’s elegant woodwork detailing means every bench, chair leg, or ottoman frame can be finished in a tone that enhances both the furniture’s form and its surrounding space. Whether making a quiet, timeless statement or embracing bolder, more contemporary contrasts, the choice of colour becomes a defining part of the design process, giving each piece with personality, history, and purpose.

“We’ve always
been committed to bringing the highest level of quality and sustainable craftsmanship
together, and so it’s been a delight to collaborate with Edward and his team on our
shared mission to create luxury interiors which have minimal impact on our
environment. Utilising different fabric textures combined with a range of paint colours,
our iconic designs can be transformed to suit individual aesthetics, from very traditional
to very contemporary interiors.”

How much paint do I need?

We have created this calculator to help you estimate the amount of paint you will need for your project. Please note that this is only an estimate, based on normal surfaces with two coats of paint.

Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.

If you end up with any leftover paint, get inspired with ways to use any excess paint - it's even compostable!

What are you painting?
