If you are redesigning your child’s room and need some inspiration on what colour to go for, look no further. We have put together some of our favourite colourful schemes for children’s rooms from soft blues to vibrant yellows. Unleash the big imagination of your little ones with some fun and vibrant colours or add a touch of grown-up sophistication with soft shades. We have chosen children’s rooms that have used our natural paint in imaginative and beautiful ways from new neutrals, like soft pinks, to vibrant hues like bright yellows. These ideas also go beyond just painting a room in one colour but showcase creative ways of bringing colour into a child’s space from painting stripes onto the walls to bright painted panelling. Things have certainly moved on from the days of ‘pink for a girl’s nursery and blue for a boy’s’. Child's bedroom using 'French Blue' by Lucy Marsh Child's bedroom using 'French Blue' by Lucy Marsh Sophisticated Space Saving Bedroom by Lucy Marsh We love this blue bedroom, playful but also sophisticated using great colours and fine fabrics. The client’s brief was to design this bedroom for a young girl to last through to her teenage years, and beyond. Long and slim it was a tricky shape to work with, so to maximise on the space they designed it so that it has three designated zones, the far end for sleeping, the middle area with a writing desk, and the area by the door for storage and clothes. This is such a good way of making a smaller space feel bigger and allows you to use different colours and fabric to help differentiate these spaces. Our ‘French Blue’ has been used on the bookcase, which is both pretty and practical, and the soft blue adds a timeless pop of colour. We adore the timeless soft, scrolling fern fabric from Soane Britain and this gorgeous elephant bedspread from Sarah K Designs. The cushions were made from Vaughan and piped in a hot pink to contrast with the shades of blue and white. Such a gorgeous space to get cosy at bedtime and a great way of using colour to distinguish a space and make a smaller room feel bigger. SHOP FRENCH BLUE Stripes Ahoy for a Playful Children’s Room by Kitty Patterson Stripes to stop you in your tracks! ‘Quirky without being babyish’ was Kitty Patterson’s brief for her son’s nursery bedroom and hence the idea for these playful stripes was born! A genius DIY ‘hack’, saving money on expensive wallpaper and once the dimensions are set and marked out, even easier than hanging wallpaper! The colours work together brilliantly and tonally; ‘Duck Egg’ in super soft contrast to the more vibrant ‘Verdigris’. We think this is definitely a winning transformation idea for all children’s rooms. On top of choosing to use our sustainable and truly eco paint, Kitty fills her home with preloved pieces and is a doyenne of upcycling everything from furniture to toys – we adore this style. Naomi used ‘Naples Yellow’ with ‘Spanish White’, a vibrant yellow with a tonally consistent white to bring out the best in both colours. Yellow is such a happy colour bringing positivity and energy to a room which is perfect for bouncy children! It looks wonderful with the William Morris Daisy wallpaper from @wallpaperdirect and we love all the artwork. Colour blocking is a brilliant way to create uplifting and fun interiors with a modern twist and is perfect for growing little people. Edward says “Naples Yellow is an eruption of colour. It is a strong colour for those brave enough to couple it with other gutsy colour tones and individually designed pieces. It will wake up the senses and lift the spirits, appealing to the architect designer as well as the confident home owner”. It’s so lovely and fresh and the yellow never ceases to cheer me...even when I can’t see the carpet! @mamasparrowblog Calming, Neutral walls in Laura Fantacci’s Daughter’s Bedroom Laura Fantacci has used our popular pink ‘Cuisse de Nymphe Emue’ for her daughter Vera’s Bedroom. Laura wanted this bedroom to be calmer and focused on small but impactful details. Soft, creamy and incredibly gentle on the eye we love the use of this delicate, dusty pink to bring calm to any room. Laura paired Cuisse with a fun Ottoline Devries print on the blind with a matching pin board and seat cushions which really ties the room together nicely. Laura not only cares about colour but cares about what she brings into her home, especially when it comes to her daughter’s bedroom, she says “I love Edward Bulmer Natural Paints clean paint and sustainable ethos”. The fact our paints are the safest with no harmful toxins or VOCs makes them the natural choice for children’s rooms. SHOP CUISSE DE NYMPHE EMUE Half-Half painted walls in Louise Roe’s Daughter’s Playroom Half painted walls are such an effective way of bringing colour into a space whilst elongating a room at the same time. Louise Roe has used ‘Trumpington’ on the walls and ‘Fine White’ on the panelling in this Half-Half playroom for her daughter. ‘Trumpington’ is an earthy tobacco shade and work really well in rooms you want to feel warm, rich and intriguing. It is a fabulous backdrop and can be used in a great variety of rooms from a warm living room to a bright playroom like this. Paired with ‘Fine White’ which is a warm white of the hue that is often known as ‘magnolia’, this room feels inviting and spacious. ‘Fine White’ makes a good counterpart to this yellow shade as they are tonally consistent which is down to our use of earth and mineral pigments. Our natural paints do not cost the earth and we know they are safe for you and your little people. 'Trumpington' and 'Fine White' in Louise Roe's daughters playroom The great thing about Edward Bulmer’s Natural Paint collection is that they’re exactly that…natural. I had no idea that most high-street paints are full of plastic and recent research has shown that some of their toxins can be damaging to our health, not to mention the planet.
