Kingfisher Cottage: timeless countryside charm with Edward Bulmer Natural Paint

Kingfisher Cottage is the epitome of life in rural Herefordshire. A sumptuous cottage, thoughtfully designed and styled by Edward and Emma Bulmer and painted top to toe in Edward Bulmer Natural Paint. It is an eco friendly haven, using repurposed furniture, re-loved items and other planet friendly touches. Enjoy a tour of Kingfisher Cottage, and imagine spending a peaceful escape here.

The kitchen dining space is painted in the unexpectedly brilliant combination of Sky Blue and Etruscan Brown. The joy of our colours is that they are based on 12 natural earth and mineral pigments. By creating a family of colours, combinations you wouldn’t expect to work sit perfectly alongside each other. The pigments create a unique depth and clarity and are only achievable with earth and mineral pigments.

The pantry area adds Tawny to the Sky Blue, a calm and timeless combination. The cheerfully patterned crockery is from a local company based in Presteigne, Brixton Pottery.

As a co-founder of Edward Bulmer Natural Paint, Emma is also one of our colour consultants and she is fabulous at helping people to find the colours for their home that works for them. Her flair and impeccable taste is on display throughout Kingfisher Cottage.  The sitting room, with a welcoming log fire is painted in Lilac Pink with Tawny, and includes a useful desk if you do have do some work on your getaway… or just to write some letters about your idyllic escape. Lilac Pink is a warm and versatile shade hovering between pink and lilac and changes with the light.

Upstairs the three bedrooms are all painted in different shades, showcasing a variety of colours. Which room would you pick, the warm and restful Cuisse de Nymphe Emue, one of our bestselling tones, fresh Olympian or pretty Isabella, a colour from our nursery range based on heather from the hills.

Bathrooms often get overlooked and can be treated more as a practical space than a decorative one. The truth though, is that the bathroom is one of the best rooms in the home to get creative. Emma has embraced this idea and the bathroom at Kingfisher Cottage is full of  bold colour. A joyful mixture of our vibrant Pea Green on the panelling and Ethereal Blue on the walls with deep Navy Blue on the vanity unit.

How much paint do I need?

We have created this calculator to help you estimate the amount of paint you will need for your project. Please note that this is only an estimate, based on normal surfaces with two coats of paint.

Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.

If you end up with any leftover paint, get inspired with ways to use any excess paint - it's even compostable!

What are you painting?
