Flock – a deep, earthy green Flock is a wonderfully gentle starting point for an autumn palette. Deep and quietly warm, it has the versatility to work across walls and woodwork. Use Flock when you want a room to feel calm and welcoming, allowing furniture, artwork and textiles to bring additional colour and texture. It will create a strikingly atmospheric evening room, or as colour for a smart, uniform woodwork colour across doors, architraves and skirting. Edward Bulmer describes this colour as ‘deep brown as soft as suede, with a velvety character’ creating a rich comfortable finish. Rather than relying cooler neutrals, consider using a colour such as Wainscoat to create a softer backdrop. It works beautifully with traditional interiors and natural materials, and can be used to pick out architectural details as well as across larger surfaces. Wainscoat. Naples Yellow is one of our best-loved natural paint colours — described by our own customers as “the most hopeful and happiest colour”. It brings a mellow, golden quality to a room, reminiscent of late afternoon sunlight, dried grasses and the changing landscape. It is a lovely choice for a kitchen, dining room or sitting room where you want to create warmth and optimism. The image below shows it used in a hall for the ultimate warm welcome! Used across walls, it makes a confident statement; used on a cupboard, door or piece of furniture, it can provide a smaller flash of colour. Naples Yellow. Credit: Townley Terrace Free Colour Chart – A Concertina of Colour Sang de Boeuf – rich, earthy red For a deeper interpretation of autumn colour, Sang de Boeuf brings a wonderfully rich, burnished red to the palette. This is a colour for creating atmosphere. Used in a dining room, library or snug, it can feel warm and enveloping, particularly in the evening when candlelight and lamplight draw out its depth. If a whole room of red feels too bold, use Sang de Boeuf on joinery, a fireplace or a single architectural detail. It works especially well with warm timber, aged brass and earthy yellows. A warm, earthy brown, it’s proof that “neutral” doesn’t have to mean cold or flat. Mummy pairs beautifully with our softer whites, and works just as well as a wall colour as it does on woodwork — bringing a cosy, autumnal warmth to hallways, bedrooms and living spaces alike. It’s a natural paint colour that captures the in-between of the season and works wonderfully as a background for artwork, antiques and natural materials like wood, linen and wicker.
