Shades

We call it Dial up colour! With 20%, 40% of 60% of the pigment to help you choose the perfect shade for your scheme

Our Shades Explained

We often hear that you love the colour but you would like it a little bit lighter… you would like to use a number of different shades of a colour in the room, or a lighter shade of one of our conscious colours on the ceiling.

So we have introduced lighter Shades in 20 of our top selling colours to make sure you get the perfect colour for your home. You can see examples of our shades on our NEW colour chart, which you can see illustrated below. However, we would again strongly recommend ordering these in a sample pot if you are still unsure. These lighter shade colours are marked with an icon on the swatch on the website and with a red asterix on the concertina.

The shade collection by Edward Bulmer Natural Paint

We have created three lighter shades, so 60%, 40% and 20%. We do this carefully by reducing the pigment but without the colour migrating completely. Below are a couple of examples of our best selling shade colours – Cuisse de Nymphe Emue and Jonquil, 100% is the ‘full colour’ whilst 60% includes slightly less pigment of the colour, then 40% and 20% are much lighter.

How much paint do I need?

We have created this calculator to help you estimate the amount of paint you will need for your project. Please note that this is only an estimate, based on normal surfaces with two coats of paint.

Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.

If you end up with any leftover paint, get inspired with ways to use any excess paint - it's even compostable!

What are you painting?

Estimated
Painted Wall/Ceiling Area

Our natural matt emulsion is perfect for interior walls and ceilings.

0 litres

0 m2

This estimate is based on the dimensions of your room, minus the space taken by average doors and windows.

For this area, we suggest would be adequate.

Estimated
Woodwork Area

Our water based eggshell or gloss is ideal for woodwork or metalwork.

0 litres

0 m2

This estimate is based on skirting and the doors/windows you tell us about. 1 litre should cover 2-3 doors or 20m of skirting.

For this area, we suggest would be adequate.
