Ten Beautiful Bathrooms

The bathroom is often considered to be one of the main functional spaces of the home and can get overlooked when decorating.  Embrace the possibilities of the room and treat it as a sanctuary of relaxation. Or you can take the opposite approach and create a bright and cheerful space for a stronger finish.

Whether you’re looking for a complete overhaul or a simple upgrade, the right design choices can elevate your bathroom from ordinary to extraordinary. Be it modern minimalism or a cosy mood, here are some fabulous bathroom designs to get you thinking about making a change – however big or small.

Pink bathrooms are widely considered to be the most relaxing as they give off warm vibes in the evening and a brighter feel in the morning.  Edward Bulmer Natural Paint has a fabulous selection of different shades that look beautiful in a bathroom, including our bestselling Cuisse de Nypmhe Emue. Colour consultant and furniture designer, Emma Diaz, chose Cuisse de Nymphe Emue for her bathroom and says  ‘using pink in here has been an absolute game changer with the natural light, reflecting the warm pigments all around this tiny room and making it feel super cosy.’

Eau de Nile Bathroom

A soft green tone is perfect for relaxing and Edward Bulmer chose Eau de Nile to create this serene and inviting bathroom with wooden panelling. This warm neutral is mixed using a touch black pigment and yellow to give it a gracefulness that is unmatched.

Blues and whites are always popular in bathrooms. We recommend picking soft and warm tones of this colour. Duck Egg has a particularly soft appearance due to the pigment combinations, giving the colour a delicacy that is truly calming.  Milk White is a warm maternal white and keeping to this tone and a matt finish in a bathroom will make a small space feel more spacious and relaxing.  Keep the decor minimal and uncluttered to maintain the tranquil vibe.

For the total opposite effect, look at creating a bright and vibrant bathroom. Bright colours, such as Invisible Green or Naples Yellow, create a playful and uplifting atmosphere. Deeper tones like Pompadour, can be relaxing and calming. See Laura Fantacci’s bathroom below featuring Pompadour, paired with our bestselling Cuisse de Nymphe Emue. Many bathrooms follow a neutral design, but by adding bold colours, your bathroom can stand out and be a welcoming haven.

For the full colour experience, consider drenching your bathroom. Not with water, but with colour! Painting the woodwork and ceiling in all one colour can create flow with fewer visual boundaries or distractions. This can make the room feel more spacious and fluid. Be inspired by the spectacular bathrooms painted in Nicaragua and Hespan.

Don’t let your bathroom be the forgotten room in your home. With just a little paint, you can make it a sanctuary, a bright burst of energy, or an expression of your personal style. Whether you opt for calming neutrals or bold, vibrant shades, taking the plunge as painting your bathroom is one of the easiest ways to make a big impact. If you’re unsure of which colours to pick, our colour consultants are available and ready to help. We can help you pick your colour and transform your bathroom into a space you’ll love.

How much paint do I need?

We have created this calculator to help you estimate the amount of paint you will need for your project. Please note that this is only an estimate, based on normal surfaces with two coats of paint.

Please check our practical painting advice - if you are painting onto a very absorbent surface, you may need more paint, and for best results, you may need to prime your surfaces.

If you end up with any leftover paint, get inspired with ways to use any excess paint - it's even compostable!

What are you painting?
