“It goes without saying we are both Edward Bulmer fans but for me personally it is his interior design work that has been an important point of reference throughout my career. His work is a beautiful reminder that tradition and innovation are not opposites but partners and that it is more than possible to create spaces that honour the past while embracing new makers and designs.

“For SALON, Edward chose to design a bedroom, “because it’s something we all have to do,” – sleep, I presume he means, though one can’t help but wonder where he finds the time. And Georgian, “because it’s still the dream,” he says, with a smile. “But I stopped myself from doing a nice, polite Georgian mahogany bed and thought how nice to have a brass bed instead and a painted brass bed looking at your Cornish Bed Company”. In compiling the scheme, Bulmer has followed the same codes he applies to Britain’s most impressive period houses. “

Showcasing some of the industry’s most beloved makers, including Lorfords Antiques, House of Hackney, Delft, The Cornish Bed Company, and HOWE London—you might think creating a room with these beautiful pieces would be effortless. But as Edward Bulmer explains, “It’s like music—the details that finish a scheme, gilt frames, brass poles, brass fenders, little incidents, they all need to sing together.”

Bringing these elements into perfect harmony isn’t as simple as it sounds. That’s where SALON comes in. This carefully curated collective of brands and makers champions true craft and slow design. “They’re a lot like me,” Edward says, “all channelling long design traditions, but tweaking them just enough to feel modern, relevant, fresh, and fun.”
