The Edward Bulmer Natural Paint Townhouse on Pimlico Road This summer, our Pimlico Road townhouse becomes home to a new residency from Cotswolds-based furniture studio Lorfords Contemporary. You may remember our 2025 collaboration with Lorfords Contemporary, which introduced natural paint finishes across the collection. This new partnership marks a continued evolution in modern British design, bringing together historical elegance and a contemporary commitment to sustainability. Each contemporary piece is made-to-order and crafted in the Cotswolds, reflecting both brands’ shared dedication to environmental responsibility and authentic, artisanal craftsmanship. Renowned for its beautifully crafted furniture and thoughtful approach to contemporary design, Lorfords Contemporary brings a selection of handcrafted pieces to our Pimlico Road townhouse this summer. The residency reflects the values both brands share: craftsmanship, longevity and a belief in creating things that are made to last. The Brompton sofa At the heart of the residency is a collection of handcrafted seating, from sofas and armchairs to ottomans. Made using traditional techniques and natural, toxin-free materials, each piece is designed with both comfort and longevity in mind. The collection reflects a shared appreciation for interiors that evolve over time, where contemporary pieces sit comfortably alongside antiques, artworks and treasured objects. Open until 15 August, the residency forms part of Lorfords Contemporary’s tenth anniversary celebrations. Curated by Nasia de la Haye, Toby Lorford and Edward Bulmer, it brings together furniture from Lorfords Contemporary with antiques and decorative pieces from Lorfords Antiques and Sister Parish, creating rooms that feel inviting, personal and lived in. Visitors are encouraged to experience the furniture firsthand, whether settling into the Elmstead sofa upholstered in Sister Parish’s Sunwick fabric or the Brompton in Raffia Fabric Dolly. Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of American interior design, Sister became known for creating comfortable, elegant homes layered with colour, pattern and character. In 2018, Susan’s daughter Eliza Crater joined the family business as Creative Director, helping to guide a new chapter for the company while remaining true to Sister’s original design philosophy. Today, Sister Parish fabrics and wallpapers continue to celebrate the relaxed, collected aesthetic for which the brand is known, combining painterly prints, rich colour and timeless craftsmanship. The collaboration with Lorfords Contemporary began with a simple exchange of ideas and materials, bringing together two brands that share an appreciation for characterful interiors and enduring design. “We sent a selection of our fabrics and wallpapers to Lorfords, the beloved Cotswolds antique destination, and Eliza, our Creative Director, hand-picked sixty pieces from their remarkable collection. Together, we arranged them into a series of vignettes that feel collected, layered, and completely at home with one another.” Susan Crater Artwork by Lorfords Antiques New Freudian Order a Sample New Everywhere White Order a Sample New Chatsworth Stone Order a Sample The residency reflects the values shared by all three brands: craftsmanship, longevity and a belief that the best interiors are built over time. Throughout the space, contemporary furniture sits alongside antiques, artworks and decorative objects, creating rooms with depth, character and a sense of permanence. This layered, collected approach to decorating is one that resonates strongly with the Edward Bulmer Natural Paint ethos. Rather than following trends, it is about creating spaces that feel personal, welcoming and lived in. “As we celebrate ten years of Lorfords Contemporary, it felt important to create a London home for the brand,” says Nasia de la Haye, Managing Director of Lorfords Contemporary. “Bringing together Edward Bulmer, Sister Parish and Lorfords in one of the capital’s most significant design destinations feels like a natural meeting of minds, united by a shared focus on sustainable craftsmanship, comfort and interiors designed to last.” Nasia de la Haye, Managing Director of Lorfords Contemporary The Kingston Armchair in Seville Stripe New Crace Order a Sample New Cyanotype Order a Sample New Straw Silk Order a Sample All pieces within the residency, both contemporary and antique, are available to purchase. Heritage colours for south-facing rooms: natural paint ideas for UK interiors The arrival of sunnier days, lighter evenings and bank holidays encourage us to spring clean. There is no better time to give a room a fresh coat of paint and the south-facing room is a great place to start. At this time of year they are filled with natural light during the day as they benefit from the lovely spring sunshine. This consistent brightness offers more flexibility in colour choice than north-facing spaces, but we recommend selecting shades that complement the natural light for the most harmonious effect.
