A restful bedroom begins with thoughtful choices, from the colours on the walls to the materials we surround ourselves with. Bringing together a shared appreciation for natural materials, craftsmanship and enduring design, Edward Bulmer Natural Paint has collaborated with luxury bed linen brand London & Avalon on The Restoration Collection, a new range of bed linen featuring three of our much-loved paint colours. We spoke to London & Avalon founder Stephanie Betts about the inspiration behind the collection, the importance of natural fibres and creating a bedroom that feels as beautiful as it is comfortable. Featuring delicate hemstitch detailing in Jonquil, Ethereal Blue and Fawn, the collection offers a subtle way to introduce colour into the bedroom. From the soft, plaster-like tones of Jonquil to the gentle blue-green character of Ethereal Blue and the understated neutrality of Fawn, each shade has been selected for its versatility alongside natural fabrics and materials. The result is a collection that celebrates the relationship between colour, texture and the everyday rituals of home. The idea began when I was setting up my first student flat in Paris. I wanted to recreate the beautiful beds I remembered from my grandmother’s home in France, but I couldn’t find bed linen that combined exceptional quality, comfort and understated design. Later, working long hours as a lawyer, I became increasingly aware of how important a comfortable bed was to my wellbeing. A visit to Savile Row made me think about the extraordinary attention to detail given to tailoring, and why bed linen shouldn’t be made with the same level of care. That became the inspiration for London & Avalon: beautifully crafted bed linen, made from natural fibres, with a focus on comfort, quality and longevity. What sets London & Avalon apart? Our approach has always been centred on the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship behind every piece. We work with established European mills and pay particular attention to the details, from the quality of the weave to the depth of our fitted sheets, the finishing of our pillowcases and the precision of the stitching. We want to create bed linen that people can enjoy for many years rather than something that needs to be replaced regularly. Why did you want to collaborate with Edward Bulmer Natural Paint? Edward Bulmer Natural Paint embodies so much of what I value in a brand: integrity, transparency, quality and a willingness to stand by its principles. When we first met, I immediately recognised a connection between our approaches. Both brands believe that beautiful design and more responsible choices should go hand in hand. Edward’s understanding of colour is extraordinary, and his palette felt like a natural fit for our bed linen. Why are natural materials so important when choosing bed linen? We spend a significant part of our lives in bed, so the materials we sleep in deserve careful consideration. I believe in choosing natural fibres, such as cotton and linen, for their comfort and breathability, as well as paying attention to how they are grown, processed and manufactured. At London & Avalon, we’re committed to creating products with longevity in mind. We also work with mills that are taking steps to improve their manufacturing processes and reduce resource use. For me, it’s about understanding what goes into the products we bring into our homes and making thoughtful choices wherever possible. What makes a bedroom feel particularly restful to you? I think the bedroom should be somewhere we genuinely look forward to spending time. I pay attention to every layer of the bed, from the pillows and duvet to the texture of the linen. I love crisp, cool bedding in summer and softer, more enveloping textures during the colder months. Lighting is important too. In the evenings, I like to dim the lights, listen to relaxing music and create a gentler atmosphere before going to bed. It’s about making the bedroom feel like a place to retreat from the demands of the day. Which Edward Bulmer Natural Paint colours have you chosen for your own bedrooms? We currently have Ethereal Blue, Quaker and Jonquil in our bedrooms, and I’m already thinking about colours from the Chatsworth Collection for the next project. I fell in love with Jonquil immediately. Edward has such an extraordinary eye for colour, and the shades bring me joy every time I walk into the rooms. Knowing the thought and care behind the paints makes them even more special to me. Walls painted in Pale Smoke Grey Creating a bedroom with natural colour and materials The Restoration Collection reflects a shared approach to decorating: choosing materials with care and allowing colour and texture to work together. Our natural paints are made using plant-based binders and real earth and mineral pigments, offering a considered alternative to conventional plastic-based paints. Paired with natural-fibre bed linen, these colours can help create a bedroom that feels comfortable, personal and thoughtfully put together. For a gentle, tonal scheme, consider Jonquil alongside warm whites and natural timber. Ethereal Blue works beautifully with pale neutrals, while Fawn offers a versatile backdrop for layered fabrics and furnishings.
