Off the Wall: The Great English Outdoors
The Great English Outdoors is the unique vision of Athene English. From an 18th century stone town house in Hay on Wye, she has established this thriving business selling an eclectic range of goodies which we think you will find utterly inspiring! Athene initially trained as a saddler but then transferred her skills to designing and making a wide range of beautiful leather products of the highest quality. She has now expanded beyond leather to sell a wonderful selection of products most of which are sourced locally along with some favourites from Spain and Ireland. Walk into the shop today and the rich smell of leather is all pervading from the hand stitched wallets, purses, fishing bags, belts and dog collars that she has on offer.
The Great English Outdoors (GEO) specialises in hand made leather goods; old and new Welsh wool blankets and textiles; ethical British tailored clothing and a collection of useful but beautiful home and gardening accessories. They also stock some one-off collectibles. Some of our favourites are: a sublimely simple Welsh slate egg holder, an exquisite leather iPad case, the legendary leather dog collars, recycled cashmere babies booties and hottie covers and tea cozies made from Welsh blankets. Athene's aim is to be different, offering for sale a variety of objects and one-off items that you will not find elsewhere on the High Street. The GEO is particularly inspiring for that 'all too tricky' present for a man!
The Great English Outdoors is also an online shop with a soul. For those of you who are unable to visit the shop in Hay On Wye, their website offers you immediate access to this remarkable shop. A visual treat, this is a unique shopping experience, showcasing excellence in workmanship and design inspiration with generic sections devoted to Men, Women, Children, Babies and Dogs with the collectibles in the Originals section!

Most of all we love the Great English Outdoors because all their products are carefully selected, they insist everything must be ethically sourced from natural, organic or sustainable materials, wherever possible.
